Hi there, I'm Ethan
Project manager. A parent. An expatriate living in Portland, United States.
Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually opened a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to United States wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and fresh expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that worked for us, met other families, and began building something that felt secure.
Why I Built Flux Verdant Rift
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was a candid, day-to-day family perspective.
This site aims to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in United States.
What This Site Does (And Does Not)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience from living in United States
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever there's a real change
This site ISN'T:
- An official tourism authority resource
- Sponsored review site
- A generic travel diary
Moving Forward
Our stay in United States continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Portland or anywhere in United States, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Ethan
